The Dodgers called up their top prospect, Dalton Rushing, before Wednesday night’s game against the A’s and designated catcher Austin Barnes for assignment in a corresponding move.

Rushing is the No. 15 overall prospect — and the top catching prospect — in baseball, per MLB Pipeline. The 24-year-old is hitting .308/.424/.514 with five home runs in 31 games this year for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Rushing will bring an element of versatility to the Dodgers’ roster. Though primarily a catcher, he’s made eight starts at first base this season, and after being promoted to Triple-A last August, he spent the majority of his time in the outfield, drawing 27 starts in left field.
